The English language test is necessary in order to verify that you have sufficient command of the language in order to successfully begin your studies at the requisite level and hence complete your studies within the allotted time period.

In the French, Italian and Spanish Language and Literature programs as well as in Italian Studies and Portuguese-Brazilian Studies, you can also acquire the necessary language skills in the "Propädeutikum / Vorstudiensprachkurs". So you can start your studies without B1. In these subjects, failing a language test does not mean that you will not get a place on the course.
