Upper Intermediate English 2/Advanced English 2 for academic professions
A course for students who have successfully completed the introductory course
This course is available to students who have successfully completed the Introduction Course either at B2 or C1 level. Having acquired an understanding of academic register, general academic vocabulary, and some subject specific vocabulary, this extension course aims at strengthening students’ ability to produce a wider range of written academic text types. Extensive peer feedback and tutor feedback on writing drafts serve to raise students’ awareness of their individual strengths and weaknesses in writing in this mixed ability group and to address these accordingly. Students also engage intensively in small interdisciplinary groups in which they present and discuss a range of complex topics from subject-specific perspectives based on self-selected readings. Mixed ability interdisciplinary group work requires students to adapt their communication style to their peers’ needs, interests, and language proficiency levels; this is an essential transferrable skill for interdisciplinary project work. In this course, students are encouraged to reflect on the quality of their language production and interaction as means of strengthening their language learning strategies, thereby supporting learner autonomy. By the end of this course, students should be more able to use English at university flexibly, effectively, and precisely, confidently adjusting their language so that it suits the communicative context.
