Upper intermediate English 1 for academic professions
A course for Independent Users of English
This course is designed for students who are already able to interact with a degree of fluency in English in social and conversational contexts and who can generally understand the main ideas when listening to or reading longer, complex texts on a wide range of topics. The course thus aims at enabling students to develop their ability to use English in more formal, academic contexts. In the course, students are introduced to vocabulary learning strategies to enable them to extend their range of general academic vocabulary as well as for terminology specific to their own academic discipline. Students also have practice in using language learning strategies to help them gain a more detailed understanding of longer academic texts. Throughout the course, students work on their ability to incorporate more complex grammatical structures into both speech and writing in order to connect ideas more smoothly and coherently. By the end of the course, students should be able to express themselves more confidently and clearly when interacting in English at university.
